Dr. Uché Blackstock Returns as CEO of Advancing Health Equity

Founder and CEO Dr. Uché Blackstock

Effective July 1, 2025, we are proud to share that our founder, Dr. Uché Blackstock, has returned as Chief Executive Officer of Advancing Health Equity.

Dr. Blackstock, a nationally recognized physician, New York Times best-selling author, and advocate for health justice, founded Advancing Health Equity in 2019 to help healthcare and public health institutions lead with equity at the center of their strategy, operations, and culture. Since its founding, AHE has worked with organizations across the country to reimagine leadership, redesign systems, and catalyze structural change.

This leadership transition comes at a critical moment—not just for AHE, but for the field of health equity more broadly. Dr. Blackstock’s return reflects our commitment to meet this moment with focus, intentionality, and renewed momentum.

Looking ahead, Dr. Blackstock shared:

“I hear the concerns about where healthcare—and our country—are headed. I’m returning to this role to meet the moment with focus and purpose. Advancing Health Equity’s mission has never been more urgent. As I step back into leadership, my priority is to strengthen our organization and deepen our support for clients navigating this complex landscape. We’re here to drive measurable, lasting change—by embedding equity into the way organizations lead, plan, and operate.”

As we welcome Dr. Blackstock back into the CEO role, we also want to express our deepest appreciation to Samantha Truman, who has served in multiple roles at Advancing Health Equity since 2020, most recently in a leadership role as CEO. We are grateful for her many contributions and wish her continued success in her next chapter.

Looking ahead, Advancing Health Equity will continue to provide strategic consulting, leadership development, and community-building services designed to embed equity into the DNA of healthcare and public health organizations. Under Dr. Blackstock’s leadership, we remain steadfast in our mission—and committed to the changemakers, partners, and communities we serve.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to building the future of health equity—together.
